
1. Overview
Established in 1970, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is the third largest public university and one of the top six research universities in Canada. TRU is located in the central area of beautiful Kamloops, British Columbia, about 45 minutes by plane from Vancouver. In Kamloops, the climate is mild, the quality of life is high, the cost of living is low, surrounded by many places to visit. Outside the lecture hall, TRU students can spend time skating at Sun Peaks Ski Resort, fishing or enjoy the jubilant atmosphere of summer festivals. Besides, Kamloops is also a potential job market for graduates with strengths in key industries such as transportation, health care, forestry, manufacturing, agriculture, retail, mining and emerging industries such as tourism, high technology and green energy.
Thompson Rivers University offers a wide range of programs from pre-university, undergraduate to graduate, offering students a wide range of options. As a research-focused university, TRU allows interested students to embark on research projects from freshman year and supports incentive scholarships. In addition, TRU integrates paid internships (co-op) into teaching in a wide range of disciplines, helping students to brush up on the realities and increase post-graduate employment opportunities. More than 500 companies in Canada recruit TRU students for co-op, including such companies as Disney, HSBC, BlackBerry.
