Today, July 19, 2021, the Canadian government announced plans to open the border to those who have received sufficient COVID 19 vaccines to enter Canada, according to a plan to open the border in 2 stages:
Phase 1: begins with the opening of the border with the United States on August 9, 2021. Accordingly, U.S. citizens, including those with a permanent residence green card in the U.S., who have been vaccinated at least 14 days prior to their entry date, are allowed to enter Canada without restrictions on their entry purpose as they are now.
Currently, Canada only allows people with PR, Canadian citizenship, or relatives who have Canadian citizenship or PR, or student/work permit, to enter Canada, and are only allowed to enter under certain conditions
Phase 2: If the pandemic remains well controlled, on September 7, 2021, tourists who have received all the vaccines approved by the government will be allowed to enter Canada. Currently, the Canadian government only approves the following vaccines:
Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2)
Moderna (mRNA-1273)
AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1-S, Vaxzevria, AZD1222)
Janssen/Johnson & Johnson (Ad26.COV2.S)
Those who inject the following vaccines will not be approved when entering Canada
Bharat Biotech (Covaxin, BBV152 A, B, C)
Cansino (Convidecia, Ad5-nCoV)
Gamalaya (Sputnik V, Gam-Covid-Vac)
Sinopharm (BBIBP-CorV, Sinopharm-Wuhan)
Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc)
Vector Institute (EpiVacCorona)
Evidence of vaccination must be uploaded to the ArriveCan app, and the government only approves evidence of vaccination in English or French.
Those who are fully vaccinated still have to plan for quarantine upon arrival in Canada.
Those who forge vaccine records are fined $750,000 and/or 6 months in prison.
