I. What is the Skills Settlement Visa Score in Australia?

  • The Skills Settlement Visa Score in Australia is a system used to evaluate a visa applicant's abilities according to criteria such as age, education level, language skills, work experience, additional skills and other factors. This score will determine whether you are eligible for a visa and whether priority is given during the review process.

II. Independent shortage skilled migration visas in Australia include the following types of visas:

  • Subclass 189: For those who have skills listed on the Skilled Occupation List and do not require a sponsor from Australia.
  • State/Territory Nominated Occupation List (Subclass 190): For those with skills listed on a State/Territory Nominated Occupation List and who have been sponsored by an Australian state or territory.
  • State-Governed Regional Occupation Visa (Subclass 491): For those whose skills are listed on the Regional Occupation List and who have been sponsored by a state or territory or a relative in a designated area of Australia.
  • You must score at least 65 points to apply for a skilled migration visa in Australia. However, this score is only the minimum and does not guarantee that you will be invited to apply for a visa. III. How to calculate Skills migration visa score in Australia

Skills migration visa score in Australia is calculated according to the following criteria:

  • Age

Your age on the application date will affect the number of points you receive:

- From 18-25 years old: 25 points

- From 25 to 33 years old: 30 points

- From 33-40 years old: 25 points

- From 40 to 45 years old: 15 points

- From over 45 years old: 0 point

So Australia does not want to receive skilled visa applications for individuals under 18 years old and over 45 years old. Those who fall into these two age groups get 0 points. Those of you 462 if winning the visa immediately after completing 2 years of university, will fall into the age group 22 to 31, will get 30 points, the maximum. However, if you go to school and complete skill assessment also takes about 3 more years, from the time of starting school. At that age, the visa application can fall into the group of over 33 – 40 years old.

  • Language Skills

You will be awarded points based on your English proficiency. You must take one of the accredited English language exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, CAE or OET and achieve the minimum score required by the visa you apply for. You will be awarded the most points if you achieve super-fluent (superior) in the English language exam.

  • Competent English (IELTS: 6.0/band; minimum PTE 51 for each skill): 0 point
  • Proficient English (IELTS:7.0/band; minimum PTE 65 for each skill): 10 points
  • Superior English (IELTS: 8.0/band; minimum PTE 79 for each skill): 20 points
  • You can also earn extra points if you are able to speak a language other than English.

CCL certification, bilingual communication test (English and another language): 5 points

  • Work Experience

Your years of work experience will also count towards your grade:

  • Experience outside Australia:

- Under 3 years: 0 point

- From 3 to 5 years: 5 points

- From 5 - 8 years: 10 points

- Over 8 years: 15 points.

  • Working experience in Australia:

- Under 1 year: 0 point

- From 1 to 3 years: 5 points

- From 3 to 5 years: 10 points

- From 5 to 8 years: 15 points

- Over 8 years: 20 points

  • Education level

You will be credited according to the highest level of education you have completed. You will be credited the most if you have a PhD.

  • Accredited Doctoral Degree from an Australian educational institution or other non-Australian institution accredited to the standard: 20 points
  • A bachelor's degree from an Australian university or other accredited educational institution: 15 points
  • Diploma or business certificate from an Australian educational institution: 10 points
  • Certificates or awards from assessment bodies for appropriate occupational or occupational skills:10 points
  • You can also get extra points if you have a qualification related to your skills: 10 points
  • A Master of Research or Doctorate degree from an Australian educational institution that includes at least 2 years of study in the field of science, technology, engineering, mathematics or information and communications technology (ICT).
  • Study Abroad in Australia

You must have at least 1 degree, diploma or vocational qualification from an Australian educational institution that meets the Australian study requirement: 5 points

- Possessing a bachelor's degree or higher, a diploma, an advanced diploma or a vocational qualification.

- Made at an Australian educational institution in Australia

- Have been taught in English

- Registered on CRICOS has been done while you have a visa that allows you to study

Note: You may not be able to use English language proficiency courses or support programs to meet Australian academic requirements.

  • Career Training Programs

- Completion of 1 year of vocational training in Australia: 5 points

- At the time of being invited to apply, you have completed one year of training. To be eligible for these points, your Training Year must be Accounting, IT/Computer or Engineering and:

- In the appointed profession or a closely related profession

- Completion in at least 12 months

- Completed in Australia for four years before you are invited to apply for a visa

- Provided by one of the following organizations:

  • Australian Computer Society;
  • CPA Australia;
  • Australian and New Zealand financial experts;
  • Institute of Public Accounting (formerly the National Institute of Accounting);
  • Australian Engineer.
  • Conditions of your spouse (life partner)

- You have a spouse or partner applying for the same visa who also has the appropriate skills and meets the age, education, English and skill assessment requirements

- Your actual spouse or partner must also be the applicant for this visa and meet the age, English and skill criteria: 10 points

- Under 45 years old

- Own Competent English

- Having nominated a skilled occupation that is on the same skilled occupation list as your designated skilled occupation having had an appropriate skill assessment from the relevant assessment body for their designated skilled occupation and an assessment not intended for a Subclass 485 visa.

- Your spouse or partner must also be the visa applicant and have Competent English: 5 points

In order for you to be eligible to receive these points, your spouse must be an applicant for the same type of visa and must not be an Australian permanent resident or an Australian Citizen

- You are single or your partner is an Australian citizen or permanent resident: 10 points

  • Invitation letter

- Each year the states and territories receive a limited number of skilled visa (190 and 491) through agreement with the Federal government. This number is in the total number of annual immigration quotas planned by the Department of Immigration, for example in fiscal year 2023-2024 Australia will receive 190,000 new citizens for all types of PR visas. When submitting the following workmanship visas, you are deemed to have the corresponding score as follows :

- Independent Resident Visa (Subclass 189): 0 point

- State or Territory-Guaranted Immigrant Visa (Subclass 190): 5 points

- State-Guaranted Regional Immigration Visa (Subclass 491): 15 points

This is a list of the 190 and 491 visas each state and territory is allowed to nominate in the 2023-2024 fiscal year. This is a 70% decrease from the 2022-2023 fiscal year. More populous states such as NSW and VIC will have more quotas, but the applicant rate is also much more competitive.
