Currently visa 485 includes two types, specifically as follows:

  • Graduate work stream: The visa is valid for 18 months for international students graduating from vocational training courses.

How to apply for a 485 temporary residence visa?

Students need to apply for a 485 days temporary residence visa before their Australian student visa expires. Early preparation will give you more time to prepare documents such as English certificates, AFP police checks or workmanship assessments. If you are late, you may not have enough time to prepare your documents, leading to your visa expiring and not being able to stay in Australia to work after graduation.

The application fee for a subclass 485 visa is currently AUD 1,535 for the primary applicant. Additional fees apply if family members apply with the student.

The visa processing time will last from 1 – 2 months, so for those who have no longer 2 months of student visa, there is no need to worry. Because after applying, students will be granted Bridging Visa A to stay in Australia legally until a new visa decision comes from the Department of Immigration. In case the visa application is rejected, you will have 35 days to leave Australia.

Some common questions when applying for a 485 visa

Should I apply for a 485 visa on my own?

Can IELTS be supplemented after application?

Immigration regulations require students to have a certificate of English at the time of application. So you need to have an IELTS certificate or a transcript or figures to prove your foreign language proficiency at the time of application.
